Database Development...
Sigma 4 personnel have experience with several database packages to include SQL, Foxpro and Filemaker. However, our database of choice is the relational database system 4th Dimension (4D) by 4D, Inc. The 4D system offers standalone single user, client/server multiuser as well as Internet options that allow databases to be created to address most business needs.
Sigma 4 has used 4D to develop several fine systems to address client needs...from Sigma 4's "Orion...the Hunter" Law Enforcement solution to a Mission Planner/Simulator for the US Navy and a Automated Fellowship Application System for a Consortium of universities and industry members.

Some Current & Past Projects Include...
Orion...the Hunter - developed in support of the Italian Federal Police (Carabinieri) and now being used by US Counter-Drug Task Forces. Orion is used to catalog and relate criminal or terrorist activity information. A specially developed search feature allows the user to "surf" through data to find previously unknown related information. |
| Product Security Technology (PST) - developed in support of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The system allows pharmaceutical companies to research and keep up-to-date on changes in security technologies used to safeguard their products from counterfeiting and tampering. |
Computerized Application Program (CAP) - developed for a consortium Fellowship Program for Women and Minorities in the Physical Sciences and Engineering. This program allows the entire application and review process to be automated thus reducing handling time from over 45 minute to less than 1 minute per application. |
| MetroGIS - used in conjunction with the MapGrafix mapping program to provide a Geographic Information System (GIS) capable of supporting a county level deployment. |
| Mobile Range Mission Planner (MRMP) - developed for the US Navy. This system was used to enter and store mission participant parameters (i.e. times, speeds, headings, altitudes, etc.) for multi player, extended schedule Test and Evaluation exercises. Stored information could be created or modified graphically while linked to the MapGrafix mapping program through a custom designed interactive user interface. Stored missions could also be played back in real time or accelerated simulation mode to review and refine each exercise before conducting the live mission. |
| MapMaker - developed for Jet Propulsion Laboratories in support of the FAA Automation effort. This program was used to import raw digital map data obtained from NOAA, extract individual air routes, restricted areas, navigation beacon locations, etc., store it in catalog form for reference and when necessary link to the MapGrafix mapping program to draw requested information on area maps. Coordinate transformation of data from Lat/Long to Lambert Conformal was also performed within the program as required. |
